A simple everyday makeup routine/ blueprint should help you look polished and feel beautiful, without taking up your whole your day
We see so many couples videos that most women seem to feel if their routine is complicated and full of super hacks and tonnes of product - then they’re not doing it right
But…a simple basic routine that works with your unique bone structure forms the basis for every makeup you do on yourself and usually creates the best results.
As one of the top celebrity makeup artists in the country, I’ve found that having a set blueprint for your routine creates the most consistent and flattering makeup.
In this guide you’ll learn:
•A simple step-by-step routine
•How to save time without compromising polish
•How to look polished with some super good tips
•How to simplify your products
Step 1: Skin Preparation
Unpopular opinion: skip the primer.
Start with clean skin so there is no barrier preventing makeup being “worked” into the skin
Makeup adheres better when skin is free of residue.
Clean skin allows products to blend naturally and hold makeup all day.
It also stops products from trying to separate from each other - on your skin!
Step 2: Even Out the Skin
First, use some luminizer on the cheeks and over the bridge of the nose. This give a polished pro look to your foundation.
Next, use a tiny amount of high-coverage foundation - spread far - using a really good brush.
A good brush will do all the blending work for you, will use less product but most of all creates a really high end flawless application in seconds.
Use thin layers if more coverage is desired - rather than one thick layer.
Step 3: Bring out the Eyes
There are two different methods I use for a simple every day makeup when it comes to eyes.
Both of them are almost instant however..
1. My preferred that I use on myself is using eyeliner alone:
- Use Brownstone eyeliner close to lashes
- Use a soft fluffy brush like the Smolder brush (or Mini Smolder if you have a small eye area) to gently smudge that eyeliner but also to blend onto the crease or “fleshy: part of the eyeliner. A soft fluffy brush creates a more “airbrushed” look to the makeup.
- Repeat until the eye makeup is at the desired intensity
- Add a hint of Pitch Black eyeliner to the lash line. Use a thinner brush - such as the Smudger Brush or the Mini Smolder to blur off the edge of the eyliener to create a more youthful, polished and professional look, instantly
This is an amazingly flattering, effective and easy way to do an every day eye makeup - and can even be done for evening makeup
2. The second method uses either just eyeshadow or eyeliner too:
- Use and eyeshadow that goes on darker than your skin.
- Using a soft fluffy brush such as the Smolder Brush or the Mini-Smolder Brush, instantly swoosh a cloud of eyeshadow onto the fleshy part of the eye to “carve out” the bone structure. Use tiny circular motions
- Use either eyeshadow as a soft eyeliner along the lash line using a tiny firm brush such as the Smudger brush before applying some mascara
- Or, use an eyeliner pencil and blend the edges off quickly using the tiny firm brush such as the Smudger Brush
Blending off any harsh edges of your makeup keeps the look natural.
Step 4: Add Colour to the Cheeks
Blush restores colour and vibrancy to the face after foundation dulls it
Apply where you’d like your cheek bones to be. This will likely be out wide - if you have a slim face, closer the the centre - if you have a wider face. And, almost all of us want those cheekbones up high - so keep the strongest part of your blush on the upper side of your cheekbones
Keep it blended by using a soft brush such as the Glow brush. Many people often use the Magic foundation brush for applying blush as well
Step 5: Finish With Lips
I almost always use a lip liner.
I should “dull” coloured lip liners as they create the plumpest looking lips (if you want to understand this better - take my online class)
After liner - apply a glosss, lanolin, or your favourite lip colour
Choose a lip colour you know is always a winner for you.
Choosing lip colour really is a personal choice and breaks almost every colour rule and is mostly dictated by personal preference,. (Making up 52,000 faces of makeup has taught me this lesson hard)
Note: If I ever do skip lip linerit’s because I’m wearing a stay-all-day type of lip colour - I find many of them look better without a lip liner.
Final Tip
What makes simple routines work is:
- Knowing the basic blueprint for your face and bone structure and using that over and over. This keeps them super easy to do - so you could almost do it with your eyes closed hehe
- Keeping the products down to the bare minimum that make all the difference to how you look and feel
- Useing less products - applied and blended well - hands down beats lots of products “slapped on” in polish, professionalism, and in how natural the makeup looks
