Why Your Makeup Doesn’t Look Good (And it’s not Your Fault!)

(The third one is the most powerful.)

  1. Marketers Design products, not makeup artists

Most products on the market are made / designed by marketers, not makeup artists.

Most products are designed to sell not necessarily work.

Extensive market research is done on what will sell, trends etc,

Marketing experts may have years of experience in marketing but not years of experience applying and using makeup as an artist.

Most of the budget for new launches is actually invested in the marketing, not in the product formulation

(A blog I used to follow called “Beauty and the Bull***t” - written by an ex marketing exe, revealed that much of the time - a “new product” was really exactly the old one - maybe with the fragrance changed)

All my range is designed with my decades experience as one of the most in-demand artists in Australia to create the best products and results possible.

  1. Products get discontinued to keep us buying more... to keep us always searching…

When all that’s on the market are products that “don’t quite cut it” we keep searching for that magical product that actually works…

(This is why almost all women have a “Makeup Graveyard” drawer or cupboard in their house.)

Years ago when I was just starting out in makeup and working at high-end makeup counters, I was amazed at how many customers complained that their favourite products, favourite lipstick, lip pencils, etc would always get discontinued.  Why would the companies discontinue these top selling products?

I was later to learn (also from the blog called “Beauty and the Bull***t”) that this is intentional.

If you use a product only a fifth of the way through before abandoning it for something better, newer etc, that’s five times as much makeup you purchase.

If you use a product all the way through that’s one fifth of the sales lost.

As an owner of a makeup brand - I vowed never to do this to my customers - but I’ve found that it even goes a step further…. Ingredients become unavailable!  Manufacturer formulas get discontinued…

So as a makeup artist, when this happens, it’s my duty to find the best, newest, most effective possible new product for my customers  - using my decades as a master artist to do this.

  1. Makeup is intentionally designed not to “do much”…

Now… in the defence of cosmetic companies…

As women are never taught makeup - if makeup was actually powerful and effective - women wouldn’t know how to apply it - and could come off looking a little like a clown.

As a master makeup artist, when I do makeup, I use really powerfully pigmented makeup - makeup designed for TV and screen - and I blend and blend and blend.

As women don’t get taught the very basics of makeup, if makeup products actually work and are really powerful, then women could end up looking really bad - getting around like they’re ready for the circus.

Most women are not taught makeup or taught how to blend and use their product - nor do they have time - so most makeup on the market blends away to literally nothing.

(I dare you to test your products on the back of your hand)

The Jacqueline Kalab Beauty range is designed to be a happy medium… get you the most result without needing the 30 years TV experience to apply… It is also why I always try to show you how to apply my products.

AND why I have created online courses that teach you the very basics that no-one else is teaching (or even knows themselves) - no matter how good at their own makeup they may be.
