Everyday makeup mistakes can make even a skilled routine look messy. The good news is most mistakes are easy to fix.
As a professional makeup artist for celebrities, TV, and thousands of women, I’ve seen the same common mistakes over and over — and how to correct them fast.
This guide will help you avoid pitfalls and achieve a polished, professional look every day.
What You’ll Learn:
•Common mistakes that ruin everyday makeup
•Quick fixes for a professional look
•How to make makeup last all day
•Tips for a cleaner, more polished finish
Mistake 1: Over-Layering Products
•Using moisturiser, then primer, then low-coverage foundation…creates heavy, unnatural looks that move and slide throughout the day
•Fix: Use a tiny amount of very high-coverage foundation - and blend far using a pro-level foundation brush such as the Magic Foundation Brush by Jacqueline Kalab
Mistake 2: Skipping Key Steps
•Skipping. highlighter can mean a dull or flat-looking makeup. Skipping blush can mean skin looks lack-lustre/ unhealthy. Skipping brows means the look can seem dated. Skipping eyeliner means eyes might look tired or take a back seat
•Fix: Follow a step-by-step routine identifying the most important basics; even minimal products matter.
Mistake 3: Incorrect Application Order
•If you use strong eyeshadow, foundation should be done after eye makeup for a clean under eye area. If you use liquid foundation, concealer should be applied after. If you use powder foundation concealer should be done before foundation.
•Fix: Follow the correct order: Formost makeups: clean skin → highlighter/ luminizer→ eyes and brows → foundation → cheeks → lips → concealer and finishing touches. Optionally: move foundation to before eyes if there is not problem with eyeshadow dropping
Mistake 4: Not Checking Lighting
•Makeup looks vastly differentin natural vs different artificial light.
•Fix: Check in multiple light sources or take a short video to see the real effect. The driver’s seat in the car is s good one for morning light.
Mistake 5: Ignoring Blending (and the importance of good brushes)
• Absolutely the most important step of all - for creating makeup that looks polished and classy - is making sure each step of your makeup is blended properly before moving to the next.
•Harsh lines, seeing where makeup starts annd ends, or patchy coverage ruin even the best makeup.
•Fix: Ensure skin is not “sticky” with residue before starting. Use the right brushes and proper blending techniques. Ensure each step is perfected before moving on to the next
Extra Tips
•Multitasking products save time.
•Blending is everything — it’s the difference between “done” and “polished.”
Correcting everyday makeup mistakes ensures a polished, professional look with minimal effort.
